I was browsing the datasets at Data.gov and came across one that I found interesting. It tracked patients in New York State who had been hospitalized for mental health issues and had later been discharged, and recorded the percentage of patients who had been readmitted by the thirty and ninety day marks.
The data included variables such as the age range of patients, their location within the state, and the year and quarter in which the hospitalization occurred. I decided to just aggregate the readmission rates for all categories, and to focus only on how many readmissions had occurred, on average, within thirty and ninety days of the initial discharge.
There’s probably a lot more I could do with this data. Are there any questions you would like me to answer in a future post? Does anything here make you feel curious? You can let me know by commenting below or emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org
